But it ended at a waterfall in Castle Frank Creek where the two ancient trails met, and the lower end of the Yonge route is today known as Poplar Plains Road. Yorkville drew its water from a large pond below the waterfall at the site of today's High Level Pumping Station, pumped the water back up the escarpment to a reservoir just south of St. Clair near Avenue Road, from where it ran by gravity in pipes back to the village. Another pond on Castle Frank Creek was larger and had laid down clay deposits over centuries whkh provided some of the employment for villagers.
